Episode III: And Now for Something Completely Different
A lot has happened in my real-life during the past few months that has prevented me from keeping up with the storytelling on this blog.
I do not want to go into too much detail, but I was diagnosed with a serious medical condition back in December, I had major surgery a month ago and I am now recovering quite well. After I got out of the hospital and while I was home recovering during the first couple of weeks, I had this idea that I would work on publishing the rest of Story 8. The key word here is “work” and it turns out there was an overwhelming amount of it. Also, for the first few weeks after surgery I was experiencing some nerve pain in my right arm that made it difficult to spend any significant time at the keyboard.
During this time I found that I was most comfortable sitting in a big chair in the den and if I did anything on a computer it was on my little ASUS laptop. The graphics on this laptop cannot handle The Sims 3, but it does run The Sims 4 without any issues. So, I started getting into playing TS4 in a sincere manner for the first time since installing the game back in September.
I wanted very much to resume working on Story 8 Part 5, but each time I looked at it I became overwhelmed by the amount of work that I had made for myself. When I first started doing this back in May of last year, it really did not feel like work and I was having fun, but now I have this back-log of episodes. There are approximately six remaining episodes in part 5. For part 6 I have only my notes and there are literally thousands of screen-shots to sort through (4,504 files (!!!) to be exact).
Here is what I have decided to do. I don’t want to make a lot of work for myself; I want to keep it lite and fun. So, I am putting Story 8 on hold until such time as I feel up to continuing it and in its stead I plan to document my game play in The Sims 4.
It has been about three weeks since I started back into playing TS4 and I am looking forward to the first EP coming out at the end of month, but one thing I have struggled with in TS4 is making the storytelling aspect work in the same way I had it going in TS3. But what I have decided to do instead of struggling with storytelling (and consequently making more work for myself) is that I will just go with flow of playing the game, documenting it and having some fun with it. I don’t know exactly where this is going to go, but then I guess that is part of fun.
