I first played Sim City in 1989. That was 25 years ago and ever since then I have been a fan of the whole Sims-genre of games produced by Maxis/EA.
Following Sim City there was Sim Earth, Sim Ant, Sim Life, Sim Tower and so on.
For long time, my three favorites were Sim City 2000, Sim Copter, and Streets of Sim City. It was so cool to be able to create my own city then fly around the city with Sim Copter or drive around the city with Streets of Sim City.
I think it was in Sim Copter were I first saw a Sim. If you landed your helicopter in the city and then got out and walked around, you were likely to get mobbed by these grotesque pie-faced Sims that wandered around the city.
There were Sims in Sim City 3000 which came out in 1999. When you zoomed into the city you could see them walking along the sidewalks and the portraits of selected Sims appeared at the bottom of the screen.
When The Sims (TS1) came out in 2000, I really did not know what to make of it and I did not get around to buying it until The Sims Deluxe Edition was released in 2002. When I first started playing TS1 I was totally addicted to the game, but that did not last very long. Once Sim City 4 was released in 2003 that became my new addiction.
When The Sims 2 (TS2) was released in 2004 I did not bother to get it, because I thought I would be bored by it as I had become with TS1. Now I know that was mistake and that I missed out. Actually since I was able to download The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection for free from Orgin maybe I made the right choice ten years ago. Good things come to those who wait…
Then came Spore and I was hooked on that game for long time.
I did eventually buy the The Sims 2 (Double Deluxe), but that was a month before The Sims 3 (TS3) was released in 2009. I was curious to see what TS2 looked like as I was planning to buy TS3 and wanted to compare the two.
I was very impressed by TS3. I became immediately hooked on the game and have remained an avid fan of the game since day one – purchasing all 11 expansion packs as soon as they came out.
Now as I write this I anxiously wait for The Sims 4 to be available on September 2, 2014.
